Gemini 4 Argon: what Google's new model means for growth and marketing teams

8 min read

Most of the Argon coverage is about coding, law and cybersecurity. That makes sense, because that is where Google aimed it. But the same abilities that let Argon fix a codebase also let it plan a campaign, read a pile of competitor ads and write every variant of a store listing in one go.

This post covers what Google actually announced, what is still unknown, and our view on how Argon could help or hurt teams that grow apps for a living.

What is Gemini 4 Argon?

Argon is Google DeepMind's new flagship model, announced on September 30, 2026. Google describes it as built to keep reasoning well across complex, long-horizon workflows, with software engineering, legal and finance work and cyber defense as the headline use cases.

The biggest single change is output length. Argon can write up to 1 million tokens in one response, up from 64,000 for earlier Gemini models. It reads text, images and video and writes text. Google has not announced any image or video generation in Argon itself.

How Argon compares with GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5

Across the 18 benchmarks Google disclosed, Argon leads or ties in 13. These are the ones closest to the work growth teams do.

DeepSWE v1.1 (software engineering)77.9%74.1%74.2%

Astra still leads on some coding tests, including FrontierSWE v2 and Terminal-Bench Science. And Bloomberg reports that some Google staff feel Argon does better on benchmarks than in daily work, which Google's leadership disputes. Treat the table as a strong signal, not a verdict.

Gemini 4 Argon price and availability

Right now Argon is only open to a vetted group of cyber defenders through Google's Fairwind Program. Google is also taking part in the US government's voluntary pre-release review. Paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers are next in line, but Google has not given a date.

Per million tokensInputOutput
Argon, introductory$2$10
Argon, standard$4$20
Claude Opus 5.5$4$20
GPT-6 Astra$10$50

Cached input is 95% off the input price. At the introductory rate Argon costs a fifth of Astra for the same amount of text, and at the standard rate it costs less than half.

Where Argon could help growth and marketing teams

Google did not pitch Argon as a marketing model. These are our reads on what its abilities mean once it reaches paid API customers.

  • Whole campaigns in one pass. A 1 million token output is enough to write every hook, script, caption and store listing variant for a launch, in every market you sell in, without stitching many short answers together.
  • Reading ads at scale. Argon's lead on long video understanding means it can watch your own creative library and your competitors' ads and tell you which hooks, formats and offers keep showing up.
  • Growth ops that run themselves. AutomationBench and the finance agent results point to agents that can pull spend, installs and revenue into one report and flag the campaigns that are slipping.
  • Safer agents near your accounts. An agent that reads web pages and comments while it has access to your ad accounts is a target for hidden instructions. Argon's 0.7% prompt injection success rate is the lowest Google reported.
  • Cheaper testing. At well under half of Astra's price, running many more copy and angle experiments stops being a budget question.

Where Argon could make growth harder

Every team gets the same model at the same price. When writing a thousand ad variants costs a few dollars, feeds fill up with copy that sounds alike, and people learn to scroll past it faster. Creative fatigue sets in sooner.

That moves the edge away from how much you can produce and toward what feels real. On TikTok, Reels and Shorts, the ads that win installs still look like a person filmed them on a phone. A model that writes brilliant scripts does not change the fact that the video has to feel native.

Discovery is also shifting. As more people ask an assistant to find or compare apps, clear pages and honest reviews matter to machines as much as to people.

What this means for app marketers

Use models like Argon for the thinking work. Let them research your category, read what competitors run and plan the angles worth testing. Then put your effort into video that people actually stop for.

That is the job Viralway does. You drop in your link, and we find what is trending in your category. AI writes the hooks and scripts and picks the shots, and you get finished UGC creatives cut from a licensed creator library, ready to post and easy to edit. The views turn into installs and paying customers, not just more content.

Key takeaways

  • Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, as its new frontier model for long, multi-step work.
  • Argon can write up to 1 million tokens in one response, up from 64,000, and it reads text, images and video.
  • It leads or ties 13 of the 18 benchmarks Google published against GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5.
  • Only Fairwind Program cyber defenders have it today, with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra next and no date given.
  • It costs $2 input and $10 output per million tokens at launch, then $4 and $20, well below Astra's $10 and $50.
  • For growth teams, Argon makes planning and copy cheap, which puts more weight on video that feels real.

Common questions

When was Gemini 4 Argon released?
Google announced it on September 30, 2026. It is rolling out first to cyber defenders in the Fairwind Program, and Google has not set a date for wider access.
Can I use Gemini 4 Argon today?
Not unless you are in the Fairwind Program. Paid Gemini API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers are next, after more testing and the US government's voluntary pre-release review.
How much does Gemini 4 Argon cost?
$2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens during an introductory period, then $4 and $20. Cached input is 95% off.
Is Gemini 4 Argon better than GPT-6 Astra?
On Google's own table it leads or ties 13 of 18 benchmarks, and it costs a fifth of Astra at launch pricing. Astra still wins some coding tests, and independent results are not in yet.
Can Gemini 4 Argon make videos or images?
No generation has been announced. Argon reads text, images and video and writes text, so it is best at research, planning and writing around your ads.
How will Gemini 4 Argon affect marketing?
It makes research, planning and copy much cheaper for every team at once. That raises the volume of similar ads in feeds, so the edge shifts to creative that looks native and real.
